Arrive in Puerto Maldonado, the capital of Madre de Dios, after a one-hour road trip, we will take a peaceful one-hour boat ride along the Tambopata River, immersing ourselves in the heart of the private communal reserve of the Ese Eja Native Community of Infierno. Enjoy your first taste of Amazon cuisine while cruising along the river, leaving the city behind, and entering the lush jungle landscapes. Upon arriving at the riverbank, you will climb a staircase whose length varies with the season, followed by a short walk through the vibrant Amazon rainforest. This journey marks the beginning of your stay, surrounding you with the majesty of the Amazon. Arrive at Posada Amazonas Lodge, a spacious ecolodge featuring a bar, massage center, and buffet service, located within a private concession owned by the Native Community of Infierno. In addition, Posada Amazonas is part now of the Wired Amazon program developing the Discovering New Species Project which you can be part of during your stay. Settle into your 45-square-meter room, complete with a private bathroom and an open wall facing the forest for an immersive nature experience. In the afternoon, join your group for a hike to the 40-meter Canopy Tower. A safe staircase runs through the center, leading you to platforms above the treetops, offering spectacular views of the vast forest and the Tambopata River below. Keep an eye out for toucans, parrots, and mixed-species flocks. Before dinner, attend a night lecture to learn more about the incredible biodiversity and conservation efforts in the Amazon. (BL, D)

Begin your day early to catch the wildlife taking advantage of the cooler morning hours. Although it's early, the experience is well worth it! Travel thirty minutes by boat and hike forty-five minutes to Tres Chimbadas Oxbow Lake. Paddle around the lake on a catamaran, searching for the resident family of nine giant river otters (seen by 60% of visitors) and other lakeside wildlife such as caimans, hoatzins, and horned screamers. Visit the Centro Ñape, a communal organization that produces medicines from forest plants. Follow a trail that explains the medicinal and other uses of various selected plants. After dinner, enjoy an optional night walk. While nocturnal mammals are often active but rarely seen, you can spot frogs with unique shapes and sounds, providing a glimpse into their fascinating natural histories. (B, L, D)

As the expedition draws to a close, it's time to bid farewell. You'll embark on the journey back to the city, heading towards the airport for your onward national flight. (B)
