1. El Rinconcito Minero

Arguably the best place for local cuisine in town. The large, flavorful portions will give you a bang for your buck. Popular lunchtime spot amongst locals- so you know it’s gotta be good. We suggest trying the classic Lomo Saltado but no matter what you order you won’t be disappointed at this eatery! Once you’ve experienced it, you will see why we chose El Rinconcito Minero as one of the best restaurants in Huaraz!

2. Chilli Heaven

Sometimes you have a curry craving. This place will not only satisfy it but will have you dying for more. Some Mexican cuisine is offered but if you ask us, the Thai and Indian cuisine steal the show. Don’t eat meat? No problem. This restaurant has great options for vegetarians as well. On top of all that, they have a great beer selection to help wash down that spicy food!

3. La Pizza del Abuelo

Two words: wine and cheese. This little restaurant packs big flavor into their dishes. This family-owned and operated eatery uses recipes passed down through the generations (hence ‘Abuelo’). Grab yourself a carafe of sangria, ordere a pizza or a pasta dish, and enjoy!

4. Cafe Andino

Crepes, coffee, nachos, waffles… oh my! This cozy cafe will have your tastebuds dancing (or maybe that’s all the caffeine). Well known amongst the “gringo” crowd and for good reason. Cafe Andino offers a cozy atmosphere complete with a crackling fireplace and live music, You’ll want to make this your hangout spot. Additional tip: they have a book exchange so feel free to bring that finished book you’ve been lugging around and pick up a new one! One of the best restaurants in Huaraz for munching and chilling.

6. Creperie Patrick

Incredible crepes and steak in the same place? Sign us up! A little bit on the pricier side but we all have to treat ourselves sometimes, right?! Not to mention, the desserts are to die for. Another plus: they have a beautiful terrace with mountain views. One of the best restaurants in Huaraz? Yes, indeed!

7. Mi Comedia Pizzeria

We know this is the second Italian restaurant on the list, but both were too amazing to leave either one out. Mi Comedia has hand-tossed pizza you’ll be dreaming about later. The wine list is extensive. One of the best restaurants in Huaraz, and the perfect place to eat and drink after a long trek or a day of exploring.

8. Sala de Estar

Among the best restaurants in Huaraz for vegetarians, the Sala de Estar offers tasty, fresh, and healthful options and a cozy but refined atmosphere. The menu includes tapas, light pizzas, pastas, and more. They even have homemade bread! We highly suggest leaving room for the passion fruit pie or carrot cake after your meal.

9. California Cafe

This cafe (not shockingly American-run) has great fresh food and coffee that will delight your taste buds. We’re always in support of breakfast at any time of the day, and this spot offers it. The food is delicious and includes, but is not limited to: smoothies, local cuisine, bagels, soups, salads, waffles, and pancakes. Trust us when we say you’ll be wanting to try it all! Another big plus: some of the best wifi in town!

10. El Fogon

Another one of the more ‘upscale’ places on the list but compared to prices back home, this steakhouse will be sure to leave your belly and wallet happy. Among the best restaurants in Huaraz, El Fogon is known for the juicy steaks, fish, and rabbit dishes featured on its delectable menu. El Fogon also runs drink and food promotions, so keep an eye out for those!

inca trail to machu picchu

March - December

5 days / 4 nights

This 5-day journey begins at Km 82, the marker that signifies the start of the famous Inca Trail to Machu Picchu. Our highly trained guides, who are deeply familiar with these ancient Inca footpaths, will expertly lead us through the magnificent Andean terrain. Along the way, we’ll traverse breathtaking high alpine passes, lush valleys, dense cloud forests, and rushing rivers. We’ll pass through ancient Inca remains of Andean settlements, ultimately arriving at Machu Picchu via Inti Punku (the Sun Gate). Each night, our team of porters and skilled cooks will have a delicious hot meal and a comfortable camp already set up for your convenience. Since we highly value sustainable tourism, we’ll have very little impact on the land, communities, and environment we encounter along the trail, and we will also take steps to enjoy a tranquil hike, avoiding crowds of fellow trekkers. On the final day, a guided tour of the citadel will bring Machu Picchu to life, as we explore and immerse ourselves in the magic and beauty of this ancient, mystical site. Our version of the Inca trail to Machu Picchu trek is truly an unforgettable experience you’ll reminisce about for years to come.

huayhuash trek

April - October

12 days / 11 nights

The Huayhuash Trek is an amazing journey to the very heart of the Cordillera Huayhuash, the second highest tropical mountain range in the world. A trekker's paradise, this terrain is remote, wild, and stunningly beautiful. The film Touching the Void, the tale of climbers Joe Simpson and Simon Yates, was made about their harrowing experience as the first mountaineers to scale Siula Grande, which is part of this mountain range. This version of the Huayhuash trek crosses six high passes over 4500 m (14,763 ft) and two that are higher than 5000 m (16,404 ft)! Throughout the 12 days of the trek, we camp next to stunningly beautiful alpine lakes and in broad, grassy valleys replete with wildflowers and rushing alpine creeks, while basking in the imposing presence of the White Mountains looming over us, with peaks at elevations above 5000 m (16,404 ft) and 6000 m (19,685 ft). At least three days of acclimatization hikes in the area are strongly recommended to be able to enjoy the trek.
